You are thinking of buying a new computer in the near future, but there are so many options it can become very difficult choosing one. Read this blog post for some essential tips you must know before buying. Save yourself some money!
This might be the most important question you have to ask yourself before
making your purchase. Think of what you are going to use your pc for. Will it
be for just browsing the web and sending mails or are you going to perform heavy
duty tasks like gaming or video editing. Or somewhere in between? The following tips will help you out.
There are a couple of things to look for when purchasing your new
computer, once you know these you won’t be needing the help of that annoying salesmen anymore. These
will just try to sell you a far too expensive product. The components you need
to look for are the following:
- The kind of processor
- How much RAM memory
- Mow much
storage do you want
- The video
card required
The processor provides all the horsepower for your new computer. There are many different variants and variables involved when buying a processor. Many of these aren’t worth putting your time into. The only thing you need to be looking at is what type of processor. The best options are the Intel Core i3, i5 and i7. The i3 being the least powerful and the i7 the most powerful. It is preferable to go for the newest generations. Opt for either the 7th or 8th generation processor. This is also indicated by the numbers after. For example the I5-7400 is 7th generation and the I3-8100 is the 8th generation. The numbers after can vary but simply focus on the 8 or 7. There are also options from the company AMD. Same thing, go for an Ryzen 3, 5, or 7. Newest generations.
The RAM memory is easy enough. You want a minimum of 6GB to run
everything smoothly. RAM memory in short is very fast memory that will storage
data of applications you are using. When closing these applications (Like your
internet browser) the memory stored on the RAM memory will also be deleted. In
theory the more RAM memory you have the faster your PC will work and the more
applications you can open at once.
The amount of storage you will need is purely based on what you will store
on your new computer. And then there’s the factor that there are two different
types of storage options. You have the HDD option or the SSD option. The HDD is
the standard storage option used for multiple years now. A mechanical harddrive that houses a spinning disk with all of your data. The SSD is different, everything
is stored on a chip and there aren’t any moving parts involved. In short, the
HDD is the cheaper option and will provide you with more storage but is significantly
slower. The SDD is really fast but far more expensive and will give you less
storage. So what is the sweet spot? Well I would recommend to have always have
a 1TB (1000GB) HDD in your system. It is the cheapest option and will do just
fine. Otherwise focus on having an 248 GB SSD in your system for all regular applications
and windows, and have an HDD as extra to store your movies and pictures. The
SSD will make your system start-up really fast, so if you don’t want a slow starting
computer go for an SSD. And yes you can have a SSD and a HDD in one system.
This will vary greatly. It is only necessary to look at what type of video
card the pc will have if you are planning on gaming or video editing. The heavy
stuff. If not, don’t bother. The video card that comes standard with
the pc will easily suffice. If you do on planning to game or edit videos there
are multiple options. The are two types you can choose from. Either NVIDEA GTX
or AMD Radeon. GTX being the better of the two in general. Go for either a GTX
1000 series or the Radeon 500. Video cards are simply to complex and need their
own separate blog. Want to know more about video cards? Keep on the look-out
